This is currently underway and expected in the next release (Q2 2012). You will be able to use filters within landing pages to select large numbers of records and carry out operations including reassignment, deletion and setting values.

Occassionally bulk modification may be required example of such is re-asignment of Organisations to a new queue.
At the moment one have to go into each organisation record and assign to the said queue. But Bulk update can allow such activity to be competed very quickly with minimum fuss.There are many examples of bulk modifications that one can site. Hope this helps.
This will be useful for my client as they would like to generate unique identifiers based on the record detail. eg [RegionCode]+[IDENTITY NUMBER]+[EmployeeInitials]
gives something like ***-36000-BAG
